Medium weight to the eye – certainly in comparison to the 2019. Cool climate written all over its translucent garnet red face.
Loads of earthy grunge to the nose – red licorice, cloves, thyme, and oak spice. Red berries and black – more than a cursory dip of its lid to the wines of the Rhone.
This is a brilliant young wine – brimming with red and black cherry acidity – sapid and sinewy and supremely balanced.
There’s a tease of the blueberries of the older vintage – again – adding crunch and drive. The seamless weaving of acid, tannin and fruit sets this up for extreme longevity. Reminiscent of some of the incredible wines crafted by Maurice O’Shea.
